Kachina Peak becomes the central celestial landmark. Instead of outlining every trail, the illustration uses a handful of carefully placed star paths to suggest the steep ridges, chutes and high-alpine routes that make Taos visually distinctive.

Around the lower edge, subtle architectural and landscape cues bring in the resort's unusual cultural lineage without turning the blanket into a collage of symbols. Taos Ski Valley grew from Ernie Blake's vision and deliberately combined European ski traditions with the culture and landscape of northern New Mexico.
